Imperial Lander
The Imperial Sentinal-class shuttle transport cannot be seen in pan & scan versions of the Special Edition video cassette. The frame instead focuses on the foreground troopers. Be sure to listen for the recycled comlink chatter lifted from the Death Star sequence.
Dewbacks
Aside from the obviously added dewbacks in the previous shot, the orginal has been replaced and given a partner. Also note the difference in picture quality and color saturation.
Troops
Davin Felth is a young trooper quickly pushed through the ranks of the Empire. Unlike others, the indoctrination did not take with Felth. He had serious misgivings with Imperial service.

Captain Mod Terrik is a typical loyal officer of the Desert Sands special mission detachment. He has no qualms about sacrificing troops to meet the Empire's goals.

Cute Power Droid.
Just a neat thing to watch as the Jawas enter the sandcrawler, the power droid starts running away immediately. I think it’s cute.
Special Edition Skyline
The Special Edition extends the sky in this scene with a digital matte painting of the sandcrawler. An artificial zoom-in camera move is also added. CG vaporators are added to the horizon line.
LIN-V8K
This mining and demolitions droid had an armored shell to lay down explosive mines. This particular model was refurbished by the Jawas. If you look carefully, you can see through the black dome to the reflective, lighted mechanism underneath.
Spot the Landspeeder.
As Luke runs to answer Aunt Beru, in the background he passes the main dome. Peeking out from behind the dome is the nose of his landspeeder.
Evaporating Vaporators
The vaporators added to the Special Edition shot are missing from this similar shot as Luke crosses over to the droid lot. Whoops.
Bad Motivator?
R5-D4 gets around for a faulty droid. When Luke tells his Uncle that Red’s busted, we know that he’s right beside Luke as Jawas scurry forward. As Uncle Owen asks about "the blue one," there is an inserted shot of Artoo moving his head. Unfortunately R5 is right beside Artoo, not where he’s supposed to be. In fact, the shot of Artoo is the same one used as Threepio describes his qualifications to Owen.

Jawa Hands
Jawas appear to be furred critters, since tufts of fur can be seen extending from their gloves.
